At a time of year when many are prone to re-evaluating their lives and the direction it is going in, now seems as good a time as any for people to reconsider their phone and broadband deals.

We have come up with five New Year’s resolutions for phone and broadband users to ensure that you are getting the most from your digital life. Unlike going to the gym more and cutting out chocolate, we promise that these resolutions will be a lot easier to keep to…

Check your speed

In an increasingly fast-paced and technological world where good, reliable internet connection is now almost taken for granted, speed is of the essence. For those who use the internet regularly, particularly students, a faster broadband speed will probably be necessary. You can check your potential broadband speeds by using our handy speed checker tool. If you are a serial downloader or a boxset gorger on Netflix and Amazon Prime – where buffering can be a major inconvenience – you may want to consider a faster broadband package to prevent you from pulling your hair out in frustration.

Check your package

Firstly, sit down and work out what kind of internet user you are. This will allow you to choose the most suitable package. If you only use the internet infrequently, a download allowance of 2GB should be plenty, whereas heavy internet users would be better off opting for a 50GB or unlimited package (with an unlimited package, you don’t have to worry about going over your download limit – ideal for shared houses). Find more information about different types of broadband packages here.

Additionally, you will also need to consider price – how much are you willing to pay for your internet access and which provider will offer you best value for money – and contract length. Many internet providers will tie you down to a 12 or even 18 month contract which can only be broken at a cost. This could adversely affect tenants are only living in rented accommodation for a set period of time or couples thinking about a home move at some point in 2015. TenTel has a no-contract policy, which is ideal for those looking for a more flexible internet deal.

Check availability

Dependent on where you live, there may be a limit on what broadband packages are available to you. If you live in, or are thinking of moving to, a more rural area, it would be prudent to check with your preferred service provider to see if they supply connections to that area. In a region with less internet coverage, a faster broadband package could help you get online quicker.

Browse around

‘New year, new me’ is a phrase that is often bandied about in January and February. This can apply to your phone and broadband package, too. It’s worth browsing around on comparison sites to see who is offering the best deals and offers but be aware of unexpected costs that many providers keep well hidden. At TenTel we offer our customers free installation and no connection/termination charges, as well as a free wireless router and free delivery.

Landline or no landline?

First things first, in a world where people increasingly communicate through smartphones and tablets, you need to ask yourself whether you need to make calls at all. If the answer to that question is yes, then you need to consider what phone bundle you want. TenTel offers simple no-contract call bundles with a monthly allowance of 60 minutes, 100 minutes, 200 minutes or unlimited minutes to UK landlines.

If you’re thinking about changing your phone and internet provider and are looking for the best broadband deal we would be delighted to offer further assistance. Please get in touch on: 03330 112 321.
