Ombudsman Services Property has agreed to allow all landlords to access their scheme following pressure from the Residential Landlords Association (RLA).

This means that all landlords can now complain about member agents, and access is no longer limited to only small ‘consumer’ or ‘accidental’ landlords.

The RLA worked initially to influence the new ombudsman service ‘Property Redress Scheme’ (PRS) to come up with a scheme that would allow access to landlords on a much wider basis, to which they agreed.

Now that Ombudsman Services Property, along with the Property Ombudsman has agreed to extend access to their scheme for all landlords, the RLA has ensured that all the schemes are now on the same footing and allow full access to landlords to request redress.

Effectively, this now means that in terms of raising complaints against agents the vast majority of landlords are now able to rely on a redress scheme, where their agent is a member of scheme.

Membership of an agents’ redress scheme became compulsory for agents and managing agents from 1 October 2014.
