Police are making inquiries into a firm of agents in Brentwood, Essex.

Gardner Property Services is claimed to owe ‘tens of thousands of pounds to landlords across the borough’.

Steve Saunders, whose late father had been a landlord with two properties managed by Gardner Property Services, said his chief concern was to discover that Gardner’s landlords were often either elderly – as his father had been – or living abroad.

He said: “For me, it is not so much about the money, although of course that is important, but about the fact that someone really needs to stand up for these people.”

Police say inquiries are ongoing to see whether it is a civil matter or may be a ‘possible fraud case’.
