A landlord whose tenant had not paid rent since December 2010 has finally won a possession order.

It was granted by Woolwich County Court after two previous attempts to gain possession of the property in south London had failed.

By the time the judge granted the order, the landlord was owed more than £13,000 of unpaid rent.

Her earlier attempts to win an order were thrown out of court because of incorrect paperwork.

Eviction expert and specialist Miles Turner agreed to take the case on in April this year, after the landlord, a Mrs Peters, turned to him for his help.

He said: “If paperwork is not filled in correctly, it may be rejected by the courts. This is particularly unfortunate for landlords, as not only does it set them back months, but it also adds to the financial loss, both for legal costs and loss of rent.

“Thankfully we were able to take the case over and in a position to settle the record for her once and for all.”

Turner, who is senior partner at housing legal specialists Turner and Howard, has had over 30 years’ experience in the private and social rented sectors.

The chairman of the London Magistrates Association recently claimed that seven out of ten eviction notices submitted to the courts are rejected due to incorrect paperwork.
