In a nutshell, Sunny Britain applies the Groupon-model of group purchasing to negotiate significant discounts on the upfront cost of buying solar panels for property owners. Everyone knows of the advantages of installing solar panels on their home, but research has shown that the up-front cost has been a significant barrier in adoption across the UK, and Sunny Britain is hoping to do something about it.
This scheme allows us to team residents up with other locals to negotiate up to 50% off the cost of buying and installing solar panels. Sunny Britain therefore estimates that local residents will see a full return on their investment in solar panels within five to seven years, compared to the current average of over ten years.
With up to 2400 kWh of energy being able to be generated from solar panels each year, Sunny Britain predicts that London residents could save up to £350 from their energy bills each year (and even more if energy prices continue to go up), and get over £1000 from the government in the form of Feed-In-Tariff grants. So, with Sunny Britain’s solar panels guaranteed for 25 years, Londoners’ roofs will be turning an estimated profit of nearly £30,000 over their lifetime, making investing in solar panels one of the most lucrative investments in the UK market today.
Sunny Britain opened their first group at the South of England show offering visitors a 30% discount on the installation cost, and has already seen 150 households sign up. The scheme has also launched in St Albans and Hemel Hempstead where Sunny Britain have identified a possible 31 thousand households that could take advantage of a 43% discount on the average retail price.
