The Residential Landlords Association (RLA) has announced the appointment of John Stewart as policy and communications manager.

John comes to the RLA after a period as chief executive for Manchester Pride. John was responsible for a host of initiatives under the Pride banner including the ‘Supersonic’ fundraising ball and expanding the August celebration to a month of activities.

However, it’s John’s time working in Scottish politics that will be most useful at the RLA. Working for Sir Robert Smith Bt MP and then as Aberdeen City Councillor and Council Leader means he brings over twenty years political experience to the role.

John led Aberdeen City Council through a period of severe budget cuts and organisational change and is confident of tackling the challenges facing the RLA and private rented sector from political and social scrutiny.

John said: “I am pleased to be joining the RLA at a time when the sector is coming under increased scrutiny, and growing political importance and aim to ensure our members views are heard and understood, as the parties prepare for next year’s elections.”

RLA chief executive Andrew Goodacre said: “We are delighted to have John at the RLA. He has a proven expertise in policy development and communications and will help us to maintain our position as the real voice of landlords.”
