A compelling video has been produced by homeless charity Shelter as part of its campaign against rogue landlords.

It is a dark comedy film starring Sean Lock as a very shifty private landlord.

The five-minute film has Lock showing some desperate would-be tenants around his filthy and dangerous property.

Shelter says that complaints to its hotline about private landlords have risen by 23% in the past year.

It says that only 2.2% of landlords belong to any body and is calling on the Government to set up some kind of licensing.

The Coalition Government was quick to reject such an idea when it first came to power, with housing minister Grant Shapps saying that the vast majority of private tenants were happy.
