Who are you and what does it say on your business card?

My name is Mark Walton and I am the Managing Director of Walton Robinson, as well as Sea Island Companies and Mckenzie Corporation.

How has your company had to adapt to the Covid-19 pandemic?

Initially cost control, working in a safe environment and job retention were the focus. We developed intranets to streamline our processes, maintain productivity and improve our Vendor, Buyer, Landlord, Tenant and Maintenance relationships.

What are your predictions for the Newcastle sales and lettings market in 2022?

Inflation and increasing interest rates are inevitably going to have an impact on the cost of living. The sales market is likely to slow down, and a recession is likely. When this happens, the rental market usually becomes busier. The Walton Robinson team are ready to adapt if this transpires.

What is your greatest achievement in your current role and what made it so special?

Adapting over almost 20 years and maintaining a good team spirit throughout. Surrounding myself with Team members who are better than me in their areas of expertise has been critical.

What is the most satisfying part of your job?

Speaking with team members who love the day to day progress almost as much as myself.

What do you see as the biggest challenge facing the North East this year?

The cost of living issue is going to hit the North East harder than most areas of the UK because of its low average salary rate.

Is a city-centre office still important in these post-pandemic times?

Yes, a lot can be done on line but most people still want to have the option of speaking with someone face to face at short notice. Particularly so when you are selling, buying, renting or letting a property. It is a big investment and face to face contact means you can judge integrity.
