Kent landlord slapped with £32k fine… and not his first offence

A Kent landlord has been fined for failing to have a valid Gas Safety Record in place for five properties.

Medway Magistrates’ Court heard how as part of a joint intervention between the Health and Safety Executive and Medway Council Housing Officers which begun in March 2014, statements were taken from various tenants of Nitin “Nick” King.

King, of Bredgar, Sittingbourne was fined a total of £32,000, and ordered to pay £4,560 in costs after pleading guilty to four charges of breaches to Regulation 36(3) of the Gas Safety Installation and Use Regulations 1998.

King also appeared in court in March this year when it was found that he left tenants living in a house in Luton Road, Chatham which had hazardous stairs and steps and unsafe fire precautions.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court and pleaded guilty to five counts of failing to comply with an Improvement Notice. King was fined £11,000, as well as costs of £3,050 and £120 victim surcharge.

According to the Medway and Maidstone News, King owns and manages more than 250 Medway rental properties.
