Landlord handed £1,800 fine for failing to comply with regulations

A landlord has been order to pay just over £1,800 for failing to provide an energy certificate and not complying with an improvement notice issued by North Kesteven District Council.

The council felt as though it was left with no option but to take action against Sharon Clarke, who owns a private rented property in Akrotiri Square, Nocton, located in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, after she ignored a request to make necessary safety improvements to her rental home.

The case was heard in her absence at Lincoln Magistrates Court last week, where she was found guilty of the two charges. She was sentenced to a fine of £660 per charge, costs of £450 and a victim surcharge of £66.

Councillor Richard Wright, executive board member for enforcement, said: “We have a duty to make sure that private rented homes are safe and secure for their tenants and will not shy away from taking action where rules and regulations are not being complied with.”
