Landlords to challenge Redbridge Council’s planned licensing schemes

Landlords in Redbridge are being invited to put any questions they have over new controversial licensing schemes to council officers at a meeting being held tomorrow.

As part of its 12-week consultation period over two new property licensing schemes, Redbridge Council will be holding a question and answer session at Wanstead Library in Spratt Hall Road in which landlords will be able to raise any concerns they may have regarding the proposals.

The initiative could see landlords in certain wards pay up to £500 a year in fees, as part of a council effort to clampdown on rogue landlords and anti-social behaviour in private rented homes.

The first scheme only applies to two Redbridge wards, which means the council does not need to consult on plans before introducing them there.

But the second scheme, which is planned for 12 other wards, including Snaresbrook, Church End and Roding, needs requires consent from the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) before being introduced.

To reserve your place at the meeting tomorrow, which will take place from 5.30pm to 8.30pm, email PRSLicensing@redbridge.gov.uk.
