Lincoln Council launching new landlord accreditation scheme this week

The City of Lincoln Council will launch the Trusted Landlord Scheme this week in an effort to promote best practice and improve conditions in Lincoln’s private rented sector.

The council says it is introducing the initiative on Thursday 30 March in a bid to improve the standards in the PRS, with landlords wishing to sign up to the scheme having to comply with various new rules and demonstrate that they are ‘fit and proper’.

While the council says it acknowledges that many landlords provide good, well-managed and well-maintained accommodation, the council is concerned about the welfare of some tenants, given that around one in five of the housing stock in the centre of Lincoln is currently privately rented, which is higher than average.

Hannah Cann, the housing standards officer for the City of Lincoln Council, said: “We’re hoping that once we’ve got a number of landlords signed up, we will be able to tell residents to only go to these landlords.”

Aside from show that they are ‘fit and proper’ and comply with several legal requirements, landlords hoping to join the new scheme will also need to agree to a code of practice, which includes things such as dealing with repairs promptly.
