The London Borough of Redbridge has from today introduced new selective licensing schemes in the wards of Valentines and Clementswood. The council is also requesting consent from the government to introduce a wider selective scheme to include a further 12 wards.
All buy-to-let landlords in Valentines and Clementswood are subject to the new selective licensing, and therefore must obtain a licence and, if they fail to do so, or fail to achieve acceptable management standards, the local authority can take enforcement action.
Any landlord in Valentines or Clementswood will receive an early bird discount that drops the fee from £500 to £250 if they apply for a license before 13 September.
The London Borough of Redbridge is also introducing a borough wide additional licensing scheme, which covers small HMOs that do not require mandatory licensing.
You will need a licence if your HMO is occupied by three or more residents who form at least two more households and facilities are shared between these tenants. The licence application fee is £500.
If you require any further information, or to apply for a licence, email PRSlicensing@redbridge.gov.uk. Alternatively you can telephone the council’s Property Licensing Team on 020 8708 4845.
