Man, whose family are victims of Leicester explosion, offered rent free flat

A generous landlord, who has asked to remain anonymous, has donated one of her rental properties to Jose Ragoobeer, whose family are victims of an explosion, which occurred in Leicester on Sunday.

The landlord reportedly contacted Ragoobeer’s workplace, Pure Homecare’s Leicester office, which is raising funds to support him, after the 58-year old’s sons and wife were involved in the explosion and ensuing fire on Hinckley Road.

Ragoobeer’s wife Mary, 46, and their two sons Shane, 18, and Sean, 17, have been named by police as missing following the explosion, while the couple’s youngest son Scott, 15, was injured.

Emily Sinnott, one of Jose's colleagues, told the Leicester Mercury about the kind rent free flat offer.

She said: “We just had a call this morning, and it was a lady who said she was a landlord, and that she didn't want her identity public, but she wanted to help.

“She said she had a flat in Oadby, she said ‘I want to give it to Jo rent free’. It's a fully-furnished flat.

“She said she just needed to make the call to her solicitor to get it sorted.

“How kind is that?”

Ragoobeer has been told about the landlord’s offer, but it is not yet known if whether he will be accepting it.

Sinnott added: “When Lola spoke to him, he said 'it's lovely, thank you so much'. He said he wants to stay near the school but doesn't want to stay near the blast site.

“It’s just amazing that someone would do that for him.”
