New app allows tenants to report problems and view rent documents

A new app is targeting tenants and says it allows them “to sort any issues at the click of a button.”

The app is the latest manifestation of PlanetRent, developed by residential property consultancy Ringley Group; through the app tenants will be able to access documents including their tenancy agreement, gas safety certificate and inventory checklist.

Users will also be able to log repairs and maintenance requests directly through the app rather than having to call or email their agent or landlord. In return the app can be used to directly notify the tenant when any maintenance or repairs have been completed, and all documents can be accessed by renter, landlord or agent.

The app can also carry floor-plans and utilities information.

Ringley Group, which launched Planet Rent earlier this year, manages thousands of homes across the country and has invested over £2m in creating a suite of technological products for the residential market.

It says it brought forward the launch of PlanetRent to help landlords and agents cope with social distancing measures introduced by the government in response to coronavirus.

Mary-Anne Bowring, group managing director at Ringley and creator of PlanetRent, says: “Having launched PlanetRent earlier this year, we’re now delighted to bring our tenant-facing app to market, enabling renters to access their portal directly from their smartphone, meaning they can do everything from requesting repairs to accessing key documents such as their tenancy agreement while on the move.”

My tenants are free to phone, text, or email either me or the agent at anytime, why do I need an app ?

There's an app for pretty much everything these days so I guess landlords have to move with the times. I guess we need to see what the app actually does before deciding whether to use it!

Sounds like a solution to a non existent problem. Copies of all documents are emailed to tenants as and when required. When they ask for further copies I just resend the email, takes two minutes.

If you're a good LL, this app shouldn't be an issue.

However, if you’re a rogue LL then this app will be a dream for all tenants and a nightmare for you!

So any LL that doesn't use this app is automatically a rogue LL ? stupid comment sir.
