All property moves should be delayed during coronavirus crisis

The Scottish government has released new guidance advising that all property moves north of the border should be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns over public health and safety.

Although people are still permitted to move home, the advice is that those who are able to delay their moving should.

If delaying the move is not an option, the Scottish government advises that as long as the mover is able to complete the move safely and the property into which that person is moving is empty or can also be safely vacated, they may do so.

Anyone with symptoms, self-isolating or shielding from the virus, should not move property at the present time.

Buy-to-let investors may be interested to learn that those who already have a property on the market or who wish to purchase a property will find that their offers will still be accepted.

Paul Hilton, CEO of ESPC, said: “Protecting public health and safety is the most important concern at present.

“In line with advice from the Scottish government, those who are able to postpone their moving date until after the current social distancing measures have been lifted should look to do so.

“In any cases where a delay is not possible, the guidance from the Scottish government about completing the move safely should be adhered to.”

Why advise delay where the move can be made safely? Leaving properties deliberately empty just adds to a shortage of homes. SNP join Labour in wanting everyone to get paid but do no work and pay no rent!
