Over 2,500 homes available for NHS workers free of charge

There are now more than 2,500 homes available for NHS workers free of charge under the NHS Homes scheme launched by the short-term let sector.

The scheme, which is operated by a number of professional management companies in the short-term let industry, under the umbrella of the UK Short Term Accommodation Association (STAA), enables NHS staff to stay in homes near the hospitals they work in for free during the COVID-19 outbreak.

There has been a high level of demand from people working in the NHS, including those who are on the front-line of the crisis.

The available portfolio of properties for NHS workers has increased to more than 2,500.

Merilee Karr, Chair of the STAA and CEO of UnderTheDoormat, said, “It has taken a tremendous amount of hard work to launch this scheme and get it up and running so quickly.

“I would like to thank everyone involved for their efforts – the property management and hospitality companies, firms offering services and the homeowners who offered their homes to NHS workers for free.”

Among the latest companies to have pledged available properties to the NHS Homes scheme are Veeve, Air Peace of Mind, Dreams Unlimited, Mason & Fifth, Park Lane City Apartments, Hemmingfords, CityRelay, Portfolio Serviced Apartments and Sykes Holiday Cottages.

In addition, the Association of Scotland’s Self Caterers has joined to facilitate the scheme in Scotland. The founding organisations participating in the scheme are UnderTheDoormat, Laundryheap, onefinestay, Homes & Villas by Marriott International, Altido and LoveHomeSwap.

There are also a number of associated companies providing new additional services to the scheme, including Pikl Insurance, Guardhog, and Airlinen.

Karr added: “The value that the scheme is delivering is clearly demonstrated by the comments we have received from the NHS workers themselves.

“We couldn’t be prouder to be part of an industry that is helping the crisis in such a meaningful way.”

Obviously dud investment properties if they can't even let them.
No way would I be offering anyone free accommodation.
Bills can't be paid with fresh air!!
Seems there are a lot of dud investment properties around!!

Still if nobody wants to rent them for money having an NHS worker is better than leaving it empty.
Sort of a cheap property guardian.

A great and needed bit of PR for our industry. Well done those involved. I’ve been making some of mine available to Friebds and family on the front line and also allowed one of my tenants living in a tiny attic apartment to use my Empty larger Air B&B’s for a bit of a change of scenery and she’s been able to keep going with online personal training sessions too!
