Buy-to-let landlords in England must now ensure that electrical installation inspections and testing are carried out for all new tenancies in England or from 1 April 2021 for existing tenancies, under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020.
Every fixed electrical installation must be inspected and tested at least every five years by a qualified person under the new regulations.
The rules also state that a landlord is required to obtain a report of the results of the inspection and test, supply it to each tenant within 28 days and retain a copy until the next inspection is due.
To help you understand the Electrical Safety Standards, Electrical Safety First is hosting a Q&A session via Facebook for landlords, on August 4th at 1pm.
Martyn Allen, the charity’s technical director, will be in the chair, to answer any questions relating to these new requirements. For more information, click here.
