Council targets rogue landlords

Buy-to-let landlords in Bury now face the prospect of major fines if they are caught providing tenants with unsafe and substandard accommodation.

The move has been agreed by Bury Council’s cabinet, which means sanctions of up to £30,000 could be imposed on those who put their tenants at risk by refusing to comply with certain Housing Act offences and not carrying out works to their properties to ensure their tenants’ safety.

Cllr Clare Cummins, cabinet member for housing services, commented: “The majority of landlords are responsible people and play fair with their tenants. However, there will always be some who do not follow the rules and even put their tenants at risk.

“This gives us an extra sanction to take in the worst cases without having to go through lengthy court proceedings.”

Rogue = whoever the Council can slap a Civil Penalty on for whatever of the 100's of contraventions they can find.

Its absolutely NOTHING at all to do with concentrating on Rogue landlords and simply a Money - generating exercise.

But it's better than just slapping more rules and costs on decent landlords - which are ignored by the rogues anyway.

They can slap as many rules and costs as they like.

All I will do is add it all onto tenant rentals PLUS an extra 15%. SO I rather like extea add ons, as I get more income.

Carry on Council and Government boys. I love you.

So if you break rules and get fined, you just pass that on?

Rules should also apply to councils. councils should pick up the rent when tenants cannot pay. Done councils don't even comply with their own building regs obligations. Yet again, another attack on Landlords whilst begging them to not make tenants homeless. Where do they think the money will come from if no one is paying? Stupid money grab that's all.

No - I will not break the rules, I was saying that if the Govt. or Local Authorities make extra charges on me as a landlord, then, as in any business, if my costs go up, the costs get charged to the consumer.

In this case, I am the Business Owner and The Tenant is the consumer.

I am NOT breaking any rules, I am just following fair business practices. As does BMW, Pepsi, Sainsburys, Tesco and on and on.....Even the Govenment does the same.
