Evicted tenant fined for racially abusing landlord

A former tenant has been fined for sending racially offensive messages to his former landlord over three years after being evicted by him.

The Stoke Sentinel reports that Dane Lloyd was drunk when he sent WhatsApp messages to the landlord, claiming he was left £800 out of pocket because a deposit was not returned to him.

Magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre were told by prosecution counsel: “The injured party received a series of messages via WhatsApp from a number he knew to be the defendant’s, who was a former tenant. They were abusive and contained some very unpleasant words.

“The injured party had not had any contact with the defendant for three-and-a-half years and the messages came out of the blue. He said their friendship had broken down when he had to have the defendant removed from one of his properties.”

Lloyds - who pleaded guilty - was fined £320.

Defence counsel said Lloyd was remorseful and ashamed, and had been kicking himself for sending messages which the magistrates went on to describe as “deeply offensive."

And why exactly is this a news story about an individual racist tenant in Landlord Today? Racial abuse can happen anywhere. It is always a crime wherever it happens. Maybe it's a 'low news' day today.

So all Tenants aren't angels? Rightly or wrongly, it's cumulative effect David. Akin to anti-Landlord propaganda that is peddled daily; much of it unrelated nonsense too.
I agree it's certainly not a media story in my eyes either....but then again I don't make the rules.

David reminds me of one of those people walking around wearing placards and proclaiming the end is nigh while everyone else just rolls their eyes and yawns

An equally pointless pursuit. The first time they're right there's no one left for them to tell "told you so!".
