The petition appears on the Welsh Parliament website and if it secures 10,000 signatures it will be considered for a debate by politicians.
Local people are being priced out of their own communities. This is destroying our culture and language. Simply building more houses is not enough.
We call for a fundamental rethink of policy to prioritise the social, cultural and economic needs of the people of Wales in line with Cymraeg 2050 and the Well-being of Future Generations Act.
Give people a say on solving our housing crisis: implement the eight demands of the Housing Justice Charter and set up a Citizens Assembly to drive change.
Covid has shown the need for decisive Welsh Government action to deal with a major crisis. Urgent action is needed now to address our housing crisis, before local cultures and language are lost and an out of control housing market destroys urban and rural Welsh communities.
The Housing Justice Charter group is a non-party political collaboration from across Wales. We researched all the issues and solutions proposed by others and summed them up in eight achievable and positive areas for action.
Implement the Charter’s demands; use a Citizens Assembly to drive the change:
1. Declare a housing emergency in Wales
2 Create a bill to address housing inequality.
3. Protect our communities; rural and urban.
4. Protect Welsh Language and culture.
5. Reform social housing provision.
6 Urgently address the pressing issue of second home ownership.
7. Reform planning laws to respond to local housing needs.
8. Create a citizens assembly on housing.

No vendor has to accept a higher offer from a second home owner or landlord.
The greed starts with local vendors, not with the buyer who offers the highest price.
This is true but I would call it a vendors reasonable desire to get the best possible price. This is why there needs to be some kind of regulation to put on an outside constraint, in a similar way to some local authorities limiting the number of HMOs in a given area.

What's the difference between that desire and greed?
I'm not knocking all forms of greed and support the desire to be better off through hard work, shrewd investment, prudent long term planning etc.
The greed I can't stand is that shown by those who don't or won't put in the effort to achieve the same as others but expect to be no worse off and have the same choices, including the choice of where to live.
time to reverse devolution--it was always part of eu plan
Hi there, my name is Emma Hookway and I’m the founder member of The North Devon and Torridge housing group. We are fighting for the rights of locals to be able to rent property on the area they call their home. Covid has brought about a massive increase in property value in the area, with many people buying second homes, moving to the area, rental homes being converted to holiday homes and of course a lack of social housing.
Our group has been campaigning hard to get the government to acknowledge our plight. We have gained a following of 2.1K members, having been in many national tabloids, BBC evening news, Made a program for radio 4, Heart fm and lots of local media. We were recently invited to The House of Commons to talk to MP Tim Farron (Cumbria) about how areas across the U.K. can link up and support each other to get the government to start putting in legislations to protect our communities.
If you are interested in being part of this…please find me on FB and message…Emma Dee Hookway.
I’m hosting a zoom meeting tomorrow night for other groups across the U.K.
I think you got lost on your way to Shelter.
Emma
Why not name and shame local vendors who sold out to second home owners?
No one is forced to take the highest bid.
