Labour pressure group tweets: “All landlords are bastards”

A Labour Party pressure group has tweeted the message: “All landlords are bastards.”

The tweet, from Labour Tenants United, is the latest in a series of aggressively anti-landlord messages on social media from the organisation.

The offensive tweet was posted on Wednesday afternoon, in response to another social media message.

On Wednesday evening, Landlord Today contacted the office of Labour’s shadow housing minister, Lucy Powell, for comment on the incident; so far there has been no response.

Just a month ago when Powell was appointed she was herself criticised by Labour Tenants United, again on Twitter. The group initially welcomed Powell to her post but then said “On the other hand” and retweeted a social media comment saying that Powell was a landlord as well as an MP.

That tweet included part of the MPs’ register of interests, which stated that Powell had let out a room in her apartment since June 2015, and owned a share of the freehold in a block of six flats in south London.

In March the LTU criticised the then-shadow housing minister - another woman, Thangam Debonnaire - over her views on legislation regarding police powers.

Last October a party activist who described himself as a founder member of Labour Tenants United wrote an article on the Labour List website which was critical of the party leadership and landlords.

It accused party leader Sir Kier Starmer of moving away from rent control and other housing policy commitments made under former leader Jeremy Corbyn.

It was also sharply critical of landlords, saying “… the decision-makers in the party do not understand the fundamentally opposed interests of landlords and tenants. Recognising this conflict is vital if the party wants to develop a programme to really fix the situation for private tenants. The party cannot return to appealing to the better nature of landlords.”

The piece continues: “It is hard to discount that the continued and disproportionate presence of landlords in positions of power within Labour might be one factor that explains why the party has been falling short.”

This sort of thing is actually quite helpful and reinforces that they are not a serious group with any credible ideas. All noise and nonsense.

How low they can get ? Someone spends life savings to buy to let for rental income and these thugs think it's ok to rob landlords
I am 60 years old worked all life never claimed a penny from state and paid taxes all life to date now state is supporting tenants in robbing me , tenants don't pay and damage properties for that there is no law in this jungle called UK

  • icon

Tenants united!! Why do I get the thought, non paying wrecked house everything should be free united is the correct name.

  • icon

I have tenants who have been in my houses for over 10 years, they look after the house because it is their home, I look after the house to protect my investment. That is a simple business arrangement that suits both parties. If there were no landlords, where would the people who can’t afford a house live? Perhaps this group could build some refugee camps for them and they can all live in tents together! Complete morons!

The left making themselves out to be the fools that they really are, still it keeps them out of power.

If Landlords and tenants ( Customers and suppliers ) are so diametrically opposed, why are 84% of Tenants satisfied !

Truth be told, its the 5% of Freeloading Rogue tenants that cause all the problems, and only 5% of tenants that so-called tenant support groups are actually supporting.

Meanwhile, the remaining vast majority of tenants are oblivious to the harm being done to them, allegedly in their own name.

Very well put. Out of interest where have you got those stats from?

I assume they include council and housing association landlords in their abuse as evidence shows they share the same challenges as private landlords. Actually my tenants are all lovely and we have a great and mutually beneficial relationship. Nevertheless I am sick of pressure groups branding me a parasite and my first property is on the market. That's one less lovely home for those who want or have to rent.

  • icon

Well that has come as a shock to me. I'm going to have to have serious words with my mum and dad about this!!

  • icon

This sort of statement just goes to prove that these groups are seriously lacking in intelligence. More than likely their Members are non-achievers and very sad bitter People. We should pity them really.

  • icon

Interesting they are allowed to use the full word bstrds!! my use of the word was censored so had to shorten it. isn't it wonderful to live in such a fair and equal society

And yet, if I say anything about those rogue tenants on here, I get warning emails from the moderators.

I will never vote for labour/lib dem.

I consider that this post in it's full form is offensive. So would Landlord Today please consider removing this caveat at the end of the article?
    I'll wait.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Thought not.

Not only is the comment offensive, it is libellous. I am surprised Twitter haven't removed it.

.......and here emphasises the very reason the Labour Party will be a distant memory in a decade's time.
Cocooned in their own echo chamber, the activists and the militants spewing of hate filled rhetoric disgusts the vast majority of decent people in the UK. The funny think is they don't even realise what they are doing to the Labour Party!

How come it has been allowed to use these words on a headline as well on this BLOG?

It has offended me, not only with the word itself, but the fact it is clearly a non truth and a lie. How can they be allowed to outright lie?

The inference that I have/had no parents and, the offensivness of the word itself has severely and unnesessarily upset me to the point of mental issues.

And I have just noticed that this BLOG does not/NOT allow me to use the word as used by the Labour Pressure Group!!!!!!

    But THEY can use it!!!!!!!

How has this come about? Please tell me.

There needs to be a deep and meaninful apology by both this BLOG and the Labour Pressure Group.

I feel so upset that action should be taken especially when other people on this blog have been banned for much less offesive vocabulary.

Calling me a *ASTARD in public is severley affecting me and is forcing me to take the services of a qualified mental physician.

I demand an apology from all concerned.

Brilliant, great, fantastic. Please please labour keep it up its great to read and guarantees we will never see labour attempting to ruin Our country again.
    Brilliant fantastic wonderful.

That said, the other lot haven't exactly been friends to landlords.

ALAB not quite true but it is in my case I can be a right extreme b*stard to tenants that behave like b*stards to start with. I had to learn to adapt in order to protect my livelihood, my family & my other tenants. If I mess up then my good honest tenants with families will lose their homes.

I'm a product of the environment due to the agitator interference eg Shelter/GR/Acorn/Gov/Labour/Liberal/Council curbing reasonable laws that were in place to start with for a reason.

  • icon

Some might say they are just a bunch of Socialist retards! I of course could possibly say this as it may be libelous.

Just complete on a flat today, great brilliant fantastic. No more antisocial , no more useless thick clueless council dins to deal with.
    Now for the rest??
