Landlord pays out £980 compensation over condition of flat

A landlord in Norwich has paid almost £1,000 in compensation following the discovery of black mould and damp in a property last September.

Because of an apparent dispute with a lettings agency the problem was not treated until the new year and even then - according to the tenants - there were only “quick fixes” to the issue.

Now Magdalena Meza Mitcher and Ben Skelton - both 23 and now living elsewhere -  have secured the compensation from their former landlord Ruth Friedman.

She had already given the tenants two months’ rent reduction at the turn of the year: the property is her only buy to let investment.

The dispute between the tenants and the landlord had already received substantial local publicity after the intervention of anti-landlord group Acorn.

The agency - Pymm & Co - had also been picketed by Acorn.

An Acorn spokesperson has told the Eastern Daily Press: "We have been able to use our collective strength to win what Magdalena and Ben deserved. The system does not work in our favour, but when we work together as a community we become too big to ignore."

Any post here would only victimise, harass, degrade or intimidate Acorn so I think this caveat is self defeating. There would be no other party to upset, unless you know otherwise?

This was in our local paper yesterday, what ever the rights and wrongs here it was not a clever move by the tenants to get their names and photos published, landlords will view them as trouble makers, I've certainly made a note of their names, the letting agent is not one that I would consider using.

Oh really.. you registered with ico?

John ico registration is irrelevant in this case as the information stored is not relevant to his tenants and is in the public domain

John, they freely gave their details to a newspaper, it's all out in public so IOC doesn't apply, more the fool them.

Guess what Andrew I’ve instructed all my agents that anyone applying as ‘John Smith’ to be throughly scrutinised before being offered a tenancy

Jahan, you can be sure John Smith isn't his real name, just another one like my friend from Leicester .

I guess neither of you will mind be sharing your comments then as it's in the public domain
