Mystery of expelled Tory councillor and £50k owed to landlords

A London news website has lifted the lid on speculation surrounding a councillor who appears to have been booted out of her local Conservative group amid stories of some £50,000 owed to local landlords.

The website This Is Local London says Councillor Deborah Barlow has had the whip removed from her position as a Conservative on Epping Forest council.

She was elected on May 6 but is now officially termed as an independent.

The website reports another reliable local news outlet - the Epping Forest Guardian - running stories citing three local landlords who claim to be owed rent by Barlow.

One is a 90 year old woman who claims to have lost £7,527 in unpaid rent; another secured a court judgment order earlier this year for the repayment of £32,000 in back rent.
