The Home Office has issued yet another update of its Right To Rent guidance for landlords and tenants.

It advises them on the conduct of Right To Rent checks and on how to prevent liability for a civil penalty. 

This version of the guidance applies to right to rent checks conducted on or after April 6 2022.

Under the new rules, hard copy forms of biometric cards and permits along with frontier workers permits (seasonal workers) will not be accepted; the new code paves the way for the introduction of certified digital identity service providers which will run checks for British and Irish Citizens as part of the Home Office’s introduction of identity document validation technology framework.

The Right to Rent Scheme applies only to residential tenancy agreements first entered into on or after December 1 2014 in Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall, and on or after 1 February 2016 in the rest of England.
