Private rental properties are being included in a scheme which may allow council funds to be used to improve energy efficiency.
Cardiff Capital Region – representing the 10 local authorities of south east Wales) – is part of an arrangement in which a number of energy companies will be investing in energy efficiency community schemes to support ‘fuel poor’ homes and those households that include individuals with health conditions exacerbated by living in a cold home.
Cardiff Capital Region is encouraging applications from households in the area that:
– Live in ‘off gas’ homes in rural areas;
– Include individuals with certain health conditions;
– Receive welfare support; or
– Have a household income of below £31,000; and
– Own or privately rent a home which is not energy efficient (i.e. has an Energy Performance Certificate of Band E, F or G.)
Shayne Cook, Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing – one of the 10 participating authorities- says: “During the current cost of living crisis, rising energy bills are a concern for many residents. This scheme aims to support those most affected, and I urge households who meet the eligibility criteria to get in touch.”
