A small poll of 100 letting agents by PropTech firm Goodlord has revealed that a strong majority believe the current pressures facing landlords will continue to intensify in the second half of this year.

The 100 agents were asked whether they thought the current pressures on landlords – which include rising mortgage rates and expanding regulation – would increase or decrease during the remainder of the calendar year. Some 70% said they believed pressures would increase.

Of the rest, 28 per cent said they believed pressures would remain the same. Only two per cent thought pressures would ease during the rest of 2023.

Goodlord spokesperson Costas Frangeskou says: “Landlords are both facing an increasingly complicated set of challenges right now. Letting agents are working hard to remove friction and ease some of the pressures they’re facing but it’s clear from this market snapshot that the majority predict the situation will get worse before it gets better.

“Whilst the latest inflation figures may offer a glimmer of hope, this poll shows the urgent need for top-level Government intervention to ease pressures facing the PRS.”
