A Treasury minister in the new government is to be investigated by the Parliamentary standards watchdog over here failure to register rental income on a property.

Tulip Siddiq – Economic Secretary to the Treasury and Labour MP for Hampstead and Highgate in London – is the first member of the new Parliament to undergo an investigation, which is regarding the alleged late registration of interests, according to the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner’s website.

A declaration in the Register of Members’ Interests must be made if “alone or together with other properties owned by the Member, provides rental income of more than £10,000 in a calendar year” according to the official wording.

It is believed that Siddiq may have missed the deadline for declaring the income.

A Labour Party spokesperson says: “Tulip will cooperate fully with the Parliamentary Commissioner on Standards on this matter.”

Three ex-MPs, who either did not stand in last month’s General Election or were defeated – are still under investigation by the Standards Commissioner.
