Landlords are being told by a council they can “benefit from a wealth of free training”.

Cumberland council is providing the training to property landlords in the area, with the support of the National Residential Landlords Association.

A course will be held on Friday January 24 at Allerdale House, Workington.

The event will focus on damp and mould issues in properties and will cover:

The different types of dampness – rising, penetrating dampness, hygroscopic salts and condensation, and how to identify them;

The common causes and the solutions;

The law affecting dampness and condensation;

The responsibilities and obligations of the landlord, agent and tenant;

How to reduce its impact and some of the common misconceptions that both tenants and landlords have regarding condensation;

The importance of heating, ventilation and thermal insulation; and

Practical issues and worked examples.

A spokesperson for the council says: “I would like to encourage landlords across Cumberland to take advantage of this great offer. The knowledge shared throughout the course will help landlords to prevent issues relating to mould, damp and condensation before they occur, and ensure that they are kept up to date surrounding the laws relating to this issue.

“Damp and mould can cause serious health problems, so it’s important that landlords across Cumberland do all they can to protect their tenants.”
