A free-to-use service aiming to help landlords improve their EPCs has now been extended to mortgage brokers.

eco-Landlord now allows brokers to advise landlord clients on what they need to do in order to upgrade their property’s EPC.

Should mortgage finance be required to support the upgrades then the referring broker will receive notification so that they can provide the mortgage advice.

With the government proposing that new tenancies from 2028 (and all rentals from 2030) must have a minimum EPC C.

eco-Landlord identifies work to upgrade properties, build a personalised retrofit plan, discover potential grants, and connect with trusted installers. A final EPC will then be undertaken to confirm the upgrades.

Brokers can add value to clients by offering expert guidance on energy efficiency and retrofitting, without becoming specialists.

If a new mortgage is required for a landlord, this will be communicated to the broker. eco-landlord then says it helps brokers source the best mortgage products.

Chief executive Angus Stewart says: “We understand the critical role mortgage brokers play in helping landlords access the financing needed for upgrades.

“… This partnership strengthens the mortgage broker’s role as a trusted advisor and simplifies the landlord’s path to upgrade their properties.”
