The hypocrisy of this is dumbfounding. Hackney council’s properties are in such a bad state, completely mis-managed and some in total disrepair. But they think it’s ok to ask £950 + related costs from private landlords with newly built properties? The way licensing has been implemented is disgraceful. Shame on you local councillors and national government!

This news echoes why it's so important that an agent run website actually makes something of itself. The portals pushing for landlord services is taking huge chunks of business away from agents. Are all agents just plain thick? I can't work out why alarm bells are not ringing!!

Will this extend to checking the person advertising is the legal owner and not a tenant sub-renting the property? I've seen Airbnb guests cause untold amounts of damage to rented properties with tenants doing a runner when it goes sour. Airbnb deny any responsibility for not looking into the guests they introduce and are near on nowhere to be seen when it all turns bad. These sorts of "facilitating apps" like airbnb and Uber should be held to account for the service they actually provide instead of what they deem to be their responsibility.
