Can we assume this scheme will replace the totally worthless Selective Licensing schemes as essentially it aims to do the same thing? For example Nottingham CC steam rolled in a team of over 70, charging tens of millions in license fees; have not achieved anything discernible apart from penalising a few landlords for the offence of not having a license. The utter waste of such schemes will only be made more so by yet another layer that rogue landlords (yes that mythological creature) would be inclined to ignore as well?

Nottingham's rise is more due to selective licensing than anything else I would imagine..

Nottingham City Council's new Selective Licensing has raised £25m employing over 80 staff to tackle rogue landlords - it was overwhelmingly rejected in their consultation because they had no proper data to back up their claims.. but they went ahead anyway. This was on top of there other licensing schemes. To date no rogue has been held to account by the scheme and rents have risen for tenants as a result. £2.4m shared is just token cash.

Where did the MP get these figures from? I've seen a number of articles where this figure was used. I hope its not that hazard model that sampled a couple of hundred homes in one city and guestimated up from there. I think these articles should at least ask where the research came from.

Depends how you calculate, Nottingham's bringing in a new licence for every btl in August, that'll depress it a bit.

First of all please change Gedding in the title to Gedling. Second please get a full statement from a landlord (the majority view) that will give more details as to why this is an ineffective solution. Third please ask a tenant how they will feel about having to pay up to £40 a month extra from passed on costs. It is just not good enough to copy paste a council press release and then have one paragraph saying its controversial. Research on the Nottingham scheme have estimated the compliance costs as £2400/landlord/property.

Hi. All landlords would probably see some sort of initiative as a good idea if it drives up standards. However, can this story be looked at in more detail? The above appears to be just what the council stated in their press release. The consultation feedback was overwhelmingly against. The costs to landlords has increased from an already staggering £600 to £655 lump sum and any areas excluded only covered a tiny proportion of the PRS often being parkland or industrial areas so its still a blanket scheme.
