Despite landlords being ejected .... Labour’s Tom Renhard, cabinet member for housing, proposed the controls had history of ten years of renting where he perceived issues because of his rental experience, clearly was not removed for having interests. Ironic?

My tenant has this month spent her (Universal Credit) rent on new furniture - she was going to leave owing a month rent - her new rental fell through, she is sitting rent free (blaming hardship on coronavirus) having squandered the rent due on tat from Amazon and so on ! The government is handing out money hand over fist to people who are used to leaving huge debts behind them that are 'forgotten' and borne by the rest of society who is ALREADY paying for them through heavy taxation. Rent should be paid direct to Landlord.

It is not questionable that banks nor institutions lend DSS claimants big loans; they are not discriminatory except in terms of affordability, and so should landlords be. It is not a matter of discrimination but of good business practice. Perhaps Shelter et al should give the 'feckless' their properties and huge income they've squirrelled away.

The mortgage holiday is not a' benefit' but an amount waived to be paid in the future with interest. The 'holiday' allows the landlord not to be forced to default on mortgage payments so have the property seized by the banks for non-payment. For the tenant to have a 'rent holiday' on the same grounds means they get a break but next month should pay Double Rent to pay for the shortfall.

This is blatant profiteering from the Pandemic, using the emergency as a pretext to not defer the rent - but to waive the rent to prevent debt. No one is demanding free bus rides, free taxi rides or free shopping at Sainsbury's because that is ridiculous. Why is it acceptable to demand free Rents?

Agreed: I had a pair of grandparents, you would think that safe. Both earning, children all independent, all very friendly. They showed healthy bank accounts, all the paperwork you could dream of. But they were violent, to each other, terrified me (single woman), were nightmares. we had burglaries where burglars smashed windows to 'escape' (really?!) they were rude and aggressive to repairmen. Finally, they split up, both refused to pay rent yet refused to vacate. Now managed to squeeze the woman out - the man had left but visits secretly (may explain the smashed double glazing in rear downstairs kitchen). Managed to change locks - and lo and behold, two days ago, previous key stuffed in new lock, snapped off, than superglued. House 'burgled' over the past couple of nights. I really don't feel safe, yet what can i do? I really need protection for my property from these folk. Yet, the woman has found a new property (without a landlord reference - how did that happen)

the tenants' rights activists ignore that landlords are offering holiday lets because landlords actually want to offer holiday lets, not long term lets. Shame landlords do not have effective Activists to campaign for massive fines for tenants abusing the system.

Currently I have a tenant persistently applying extortion to leave my house, he is tenanting and not paying rent for; my guess is he has learned that the Court System is tortuously long and expensive for the landlord, so is cynically using the legal system to turnover the Landlord. The current system is creating untouchables, people who rack up £thousands of pounds, with impunity. Shameful.
