A local education establishment in Brighton, Middle Street Primary School and Nursery, wants to update their outdated computing facilities courtesy of a Community Award fund of up to £25,000 from the OneFamily Foundation.
The school says they are unable to keep up with the current technological climate as things stand. The new curriculum and the rapid changes in new technology means the school is currently unable to provide pupils with their best start in what is an increasingly technological age. They also insist that an IT update would help to improve communication between staff and their parents.
The school wants to help kids become the next generation of coders, designers and tech giants (or, more to the point, give them more chance to learn great skills at school). But that isn't possible with the current state of their ICT facilities.
The main objectives of the planned IT project would be to access the most up-to-date technology, improve communication and encourage more parents to be involved, and to improve and enrich all areas of the curriculum.
If the school is given the Community Award, the money will be spent on providing the children with a brand spanking new and up-to-date computing room, as well as access to a variety of digital tools, such as iPads, laptops and recording facilities.
The school also believes the project will have a huge impact on the wider community, allowing Middle Street to continue with its creative approach, keeping children fully engaged and interested in their learning. The apps and programmes can also be used to create material that can be shared with the wider community to keep it linked to the school.
The Computing Fund has so far received 263 votes, with only 8 days left to vote for this project.
