A 10 week consultation by Portsmouth council on proposals for new HMO licensing has finished with 1,050 responses.
Licences are required for all the city’s 1,200 shared homes with at least five tenants. The council is asking people whether it should follow the example of cities such as Southampton and Brighton in licencing homes with three or four tenants too.
The council says that all opinions given during this consultation will be analysed and presented to senior councillors for a decision on whether to adopt the additional licensing proposals; if agreed, the first licences could be issued in spring of next year.
A council spokesperson says: “I am delighted to have so many people reply to this consultation and thanks to everyone who took the time to do so.
"Many people worry about renting privately and we want to make it easier and safer for them to do so. The excellent response means it will take some time to review and analyse what people have said. That means we are looking at a decision later this year.”

It'll be the usual "we've considered all the responses, and we'll do what we intended to in the first place and whack a licencing fee on all those additional houses".

Classic 😂 make out the landlords have an opinion that matters, then include more houses in the revenue stream anyway…….and kerching 💰💰💰 now that is how you do it 😂😂
