Software supplier CML is launching bespoke portals for letting agencies which allow both landlords and tenants to keep individual track of events.

Landlords can, for example, use the portals to access statutory information and review rental statements, while tenants can use them as internet banks, to view deposit details and pay in money, and also to report maintenance problems.

Information can be accessed 24/7.

Louis Anastasiou, pictured, managing director of Liverpool agents Andrew Louis, said: “The recent troubles in the retail market demonstrate what can happen if businesses don’t move with the times. Our industry is no different. We’re the first agent in Liverpool to offer the landlord service and the next step will be to launch these portals for tenants.

“Anybody renting a property will be able to keep track of their rental payments, report problems and find out where their deposit is being held, at the click of a mouse.”

Al Chetwode of CML Software said: “The aim of these portals was to provide our clients’ clients with a window on to their data, to supplement the interaction that they have with the branch and accounts staff.  This scope then broadened to providing self-service capabilities to allow clients to administer aspects of their account at their own convenience.

“This is only the beginning. We have plans for client-ready portals across the sales and lettings agency business to incorporate every stage of interaction from first contact through to completed deals and into the on-going relationship.”

Are they actually going to be processing and collecting money? Will they have client accounts and CMP? I'd need to be very sure about the precautions in place before I trusted a portal like this with our client's money!
