Residents of Enfield, north London, are behind the local council’s plans to introduce landlord licencing in the borough.
Local newspaper, the Enfield Independent, polled readers and found 67% believed introducing licences for landlords would improve behaviour among tenants.
Enfield Council last month approved plans to impose the licences on landlords, saying it would curb anti-social behaviour among tenants.
Local landlords opposed the plans and presented the cabinet with a petition containing 1,860 signatures. Landlord Graham Collier told councillors: “The report does not show that private rented households cause antisocial behaviour. It is unreliable and statistically invalid.”
Landlords will be charged £500 over five years to obtain accredited checks from the local authority when the scheme comes into force in April 2015. A discount of 50% will be offered to landlords who sign up before that date.

I keep reading this kind of stuff and I *STILL* don't understand how licensing landlords will improve the behaviour of tenants?!
£500 over 5 years.
Another money making scheme by the council then.
Time to increase rents, I think.
