The Scottish Government have launched a public consultation on the development of a new type of tenancy for the private rented sector.

This is the most important consultation on landlord/tenant legislation in over 25 years and will potentially affect every landlord, letting agent and tenant in Scotland.

This consultation seeks views on the proposed outline of the new tenancy. The National Landlords Association (NLA) will submit a formal response on behalf of members however Scottish Government also needs to hear the views of individual landlords.

Of particular concern for landlords are proposals to remove the landlord’s right to end the tenancy at the expiry of the fixed term without having to use grounds for possession and the possible introduction of rent controls mid tenancy.

The consultation can be accessed via the Scottish Government web pages at: https://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2014/10/9702

The closing date for responses is 28 December 2014.
