Further auction sales of repossessions are to be held in Ireland, following the huge success of the first sale last month.

Around 20% of buyers were non-Irish, with investors from England, Scotland, France and Israel.

The sale was held in Dublin by London auctioneers Allsop and attracted over 1,000 people. The crowds spilled out on to the streets from where some of the bidding took place.

Out of 82 lots, 81 were sold, for a total of €15m. Many had been repossessed by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Now, five more sales are planned by Allsop in conjunction with Irish estate agent Space.

The next auction is scheduled for July 6, when 200 lots will be auctioned, including apartments, tenanted shops, farms and houses.

Space director Stephen McCarthy said that following the first sale his company is now being inundated with requests from receivers, banks and individuals who want to sell their property fast.

He believes that international buyers will return, possibly in even greater numbers.
