BBC series on tenants facing eviction seeking case studies

BBC Three is to show a TV programme about tenants facing eviction after being served with Section 21s.

It’s an independent production by True North Productions, which has been using social media and contacts in activist groups such as Acorn and Generation Rent.

No date has so far been released for the broadcast but the production company’s tweets say: “Have you been served a Section 21? We want to hear from young people fighting to stay in their homes this winter for a BBC Three series.”

It then gives email and phone contact details urging people to get in touch for “a no obligation chat.”

A social media message from the Acorn activist group says: “We're working with a TV company making a documentary series highlighting evictions. If you're 18-30, living in a private rental, feel threatened with eviction due to a Section 21, rent increase or landlord issue, they want to hear from you!”

Other property shows made by True North TV include  My Dream Derelict Home In The Sun, Renovation Nstion, and Help - We Bought A Village!

Non-property shows include Teen Mom UK, The Cotswolds with Pam Ayres and Big Anti Adventures with Susan Calman.

No input from ourselves I bet 👍🏻 All one sided as usual.

It doesn’t matter what the real issues are that’s forced a landlord to issue S21 the media will always twist things to make the landlord out to be a greedy tyrant. It’s just not worth engaging with them as it will backfire on the landlord.

18 - 30, says it all really, why just that age group ? I'll watch it and my wife will get angry when I shout at the TV, we all know it'll be one sided .

    Andrew
I have the same problem. The lefty idiots on the TV annoy me, I argue with them (even although they can't hear me), then my wife tells ME off for trying to defend our livelihood!

I can't watch anything like that with my husband as he just rants all the way through it and I can't hear the TV.

Sad that the BBC is jumping on this anti-landlord bandwagon. Surely in the interests of balance they should also do a programme on landlords and the problems they face? Why they give notice to tenants, the sort of problems tenants cause etc etc. Or maybe not, might just give tenants more ideas.

Good old bbc , starts at the bottom and stays there

Property owners (Landlords and owner occupiers) already on variable rate mortgages (or coming to an end of fixed terms) are experiencing interest rate increases of 300% or more - but where's the programme about the risk of them facing repossession?

Come to that, why are more NOT facing repossession - perhaps it's because they know they must live within their means, even when their means are being curtailed?

Perhaps the BBC should make programmes about "Living within one's means"? (Note the use of "one" - been watching the Crown on Netflix!)

Nothing changes, it's not just young people I'm 38 and was in exactly the same position as Dawn in episode one..being evicted with 4 kids, end up in emergency and then been in temporary for 10 years since 2 seperate temporary accommodations... I've had to move out of area and change children's schools, trying to get a home is impossible, and what happened when all children grown up? We all become homeless, no help out there at all

    icon

Why have you got 4 children Sarah when clearly you cannot afford to provide for them, is that not somewhat irresponsible of you ?

    icon

    Isn't the father helping?

Unfortunately Sarah, this is down to mass immigration. There was plenty of social housing until recently.

BBC should get their facts right it’s not their Home they are all pushing this one,
Where does the landlord fit in this, if they owned it, it would be their’s and the landlord would have no say or are you saying the landlord bought it and don’t own it.
I bought a Building Plot and Built my House in Ealing by my own hand with only hand tools and no electric on site, Cordless tools weren’t invented, without any help or burden on anyone before getting married or having children, incidentally I still have it 50 years on and don’t tell me it was easier back then or you have another thing coming.
Why blame the landlord for other people having 4 kids that they can’t provide for, they are not his so what makes them think a landlord has a responsibility to house them.
Oh yes where is the father / father’s in all this equation.
I know one guy that fathered 7 children of 2 different colours by 4 different mothers and never reared any of them ?.
Give me a break it must be the landlords fault.

Landlords had better toe the line now the Council’s are flexible their muscles.
To tell you the gist of the stories 2 Landlords were fined £600k in Ealing on two separate cases.
Basically forming Sub-Standard Flats with-in houses for Letting without Planning Permission.
I suppose some of those multiple Tenants might now be available to occupy or buy the New High Rise Flats.
I told you the Concrete Mixer can’t stop, (or Del Boy’s ref’ to Paddy’s tumble Drier).
