£125,000 fine for infamous landlord - maybe more to come

A court has told a multi-millionaire landlord he must pay £125,000 after a 10-year campaign of abuse against a local council.

Last year Fergus Wilson, 72, was the subject of a life-time injunction banning him from contacting his local Ashford Borough Council.

Wilson can now only contact staff or councillors through a named legal advisor.

Last year’s High Court injunction case heard that Wilson repeatedly told councillors to kill themselves. The council's representative presented to the court a file of 454 pieces of correspondence sent by Wilson to council officials in the space of just over four years, between February 2016 and July 2020.

Council representatives at the time said Wilson's behaviour had made workers feel harassed and intimidated, with some receiving emails from him on a daily basis. Some officers were reportedly reduced to tears.

Now in a new decision the High Court has ruled that Wilson must pay £125,000 by 4pm on May 17 - however this is merely a part payment while the full costs are assessed.

Wilson says he intends to appeal.

Wilson and his wife Judith managed many hundreds of their own properties - all in and around Kent - until the year 2000, at which point they instructed agents.

In the late 2010s they said they started selling some of their buy to lets and in late 2018, during a court appearance over a dispute with a disabled tenant, Judith Wilson said she still had a portfolio of some 300 units around Maidstone.

In June 2019 the business online publication Insider Media put the couple’s joint wealth at around £140m.

It is reported that the couple have now sold the last of their properties.

Most of these lazy civil servants are being reduced to tears being asked to stop working from home and doing a full days work. Not that they ever did. Fergus may have a bad reputation, but the Council won't be blameless. He told them exactly what he thought of them. Good on him.

I've got an ongoing issue with the local council and its reducing me to tears! An email response takes a minimum of 2 weeks, they never write up the notes from a telephone conversation - hopeless!! In their well paid pensioned jobs sat in front of the telly

I've had to deal with an apparently very nice and reasonable environmental health officer. Did all she asked but they never close cases.

I found out yrs ago not to phone Norwich City Council, these days I email them, then print them off and post with a certificate of posting, that way they can never say that they have not been informed.

Council's do not employ the best barristers & or QCs. Once I was threatened by officers of the local council, employed the best lawyer that I knew and they withdrew everything.

Moral, don't employ the cheapest legal advocate. Protect your capital! employ the best if you can! Remember the Japanese film the Seven Samurais. Don't forget, we are victimised, discriminated, vilified, punished, etc. just for being llds. Learn to protect yourself. Otherwise, this is not a business to be in!

Every loss is against us, the small llds. We must win all our causes to prove the point that we are in business making real business!

Good riddance to Fergus Wilson, he and his wife gave all Landlords a bad reputation. Racist old dinosaur.

The question here is not whether it is good riddance or not. The reality is that we small landlords are victimised, discriminated, vilified, punished, etc. and cases like this put small llds (who are doing business and treating their properties as business, taking pride of their properties and their tenants) in the vilifying large scale! This is another nail in the small llds coffin. Good business have got nothing to do with rogue llds. If llds were treated as business I am sure that rogue llds would be quasi non existent! Lld business must be protected! In order to be in business one have to be above standards!
