Council's new landlord support service - but what does it actually do?

A local council has unveiled a new support service for private landlords and tenants.

Telford & Wrekin council has appointed two so-called Landlord and Tenant Coordinators to act as “a central point of contact for tenants and landlords, offering initial advice and signposting them to any further support they need.”

A spokesperson for the Labour-led authority says:We are delighted to announce our new tenant landlord service which will enable tenants and landlords to get the help and support they need as and when they need it.

“As a council which is on your side, we are committed to ensuring that our tenants live in a safe and comfortable environment and that landlords are supported with the demands that owning a property can bring.

“We are already working closely with many tenants and landlords across the borough to achieve this but this new service will be a central point for them to turn to for information and advice and provide a vital link with specialist housing services.”

A statement from the council says the service “will help landlords and tenants access information on a range of subjects or issues they face – whether they are renting or want to rent out a property in Telford and Wrekin.”

Landlords and tenants experiencing issues linked to private housing will be able to contact the team by email.

New Landlords support Service it very good of them.
We are also having a Redress Scheme being forced upon us for what ?, there’s no one to Redress us the only ones with acids to loose.
We are having a Tenants Ombudsman forced upon us to add to all the other burdens placed on us.

The ombudsman will only ever favour the tenant. Bad tenants are set to get worse. Good tenants will have to come for making me bad me up soon. They can run and cry to the ombudsman and win every time. Another reason to sell up.

We have more than enough of these LA quangos already. They likely won’t offer anything constructive for landlords.
    More public money wasted.

Support for tenant AND landlord ? so if a landlord has a rogue tenant not paying rent the council will help with swift eviction ?? yer that's never going to happen is it ? so much for supporting landlords

  • icon

Where is the supposed support for landlords when we are trying to evict an ASB tenant in arrears and their advice is for the tenant to stay put and cost the landlord even more money 💰…. No thanks, I will just continue with my selling plans.

Concept is a complete farce! As already stated in the comments above, this is NOT for the benefit of us. Yet another platform from which we will be ordered to carry out the tenants’ wishes. A tree can only bend for so long in prolonged stormy weather!!

Some Councils have mainly very good, very helpful staff.
I'm a licensed HMO landlord with one local authority and have always found their team to be very good. Very helpful on the only occasion a student house ever created a mould problem. The EHO came in, checked the building then told the tenants the only thing wrong with the house was the morons I'd let it to.
I let another property via a scheme run by the neighbouring Council and their staff are great. The tenant occasionally runs into budgeting issues so I phone the relevant person, have a chat and they arrange budgeting help or a discretionary payment for the tenant.
