Landlords back council cash incentive and rent guarantee scheme

Some 100 landlords have signed up to offer longer tenancies through a council rent guarantee and cash incentive scheme.

Milton Keynes council claims that in addition to secure rent, landlords could receive up to £6,680 as a cash incentive if they’re able to offer longer tenancies to local families who had been privately renting before being made homeless

The scheme is open to all landlords who are able to offer a tenancy lasting between six months and two years. The council is also offering guaranteed rent throughout the duration of the tenancy even if the tenant can’t pay.

A statement from the Labour controlled authority says the rent guarantee “gives landlords an added layer of reassurance so they don’t need to worry that a tenant might fall into arrears and leave them out of pocket.”

The scheme also offers landlords help from the council to find tenants, the opportunity to receive benefit payments directly, and free HHSRS inspections with the pledge that  “if the property fails, landlords will be supported in bringing it up to the required standard.”

The cash incentive is paid in addition to any rent in advance or deposit requested.

A council spokesperson says: “We want to work alongside good landlords to get the best deals for our tenants and while ensuring we help people get the most out of these homes. It’s a fantastic deal for everyone involved and we want landlords to get in touch if they’re able to help.”

Will the council also offer to refurbish if their tenant trashes the property?

100 scrounger landlords housing Benefit Tenants all on the tax payers plus £6’680. for nothing. We always have Tenants longer than 6 months or 2 years no hand outs for us.
I have some 10 ,12, 18 years but not as of a right but because I have Section 21, the Tenants know it’s there and know Its my property why else would I have bought it. Contracts get renewed along the way and everyone know where they stand, take it away what have we got apart from nothing.
So what’s all this talk about over use of Section 21 and landlords getting rid of Tenants willy nilly. That’s down to the proposed / THE RENTERS REFORM BILL any Survey or data of the homeless they have created with this, certainly caused thousands of S.21 to be served that would never have happened without this Proposed Bill. Congratulations you now want to pay £6’680, to a landlord to re-house the people you made homeless well done indeed.

Waste of money. The houses would have been filled by other occupants one way or another. No need to pay this. Idiots. The people that did get housed were also the less desirable types.

So £6’680.00 x 100 = £668’000.00 so where do the Council get this or what landlord are they going to mug.

£668,000 / £1,000 for each landlord licence = 668 landlords paying to have the worst tenants housed. Great value?

I would prefer an empty property over one with the kind of tenants coming from the council

Trust the Council? Nah, I will find my own tenants thanks.

If these council schemes are good for landlords, the council would not offer them, as they would be better off buying their own properties to rent out.
