Energy Efficiency help may be available to private rental properties

Private rental properties are being included in a scheme which may allow council funds to be used to improve energy efficiency.

Cardiff Capital Region - representing the 10 local authorities of south east Wales) - is part of an arrangement in which a number of energy companies will be investing in energy efficiency community schemes to support ‘fuel poor’ homes and those households that include individuals with health conditions exacerbated by living in a cold home.

Cardiff Capital Region is encouraging applications from households in the area that:

- Live in ‘off gas’ homes in rural areas;

- Include individuals with certain health conditions;

- Receive welfare support; or

- Have a household income of below £31,000; and

- Own or privately rent a home which is not energy efficient (i.e. has an Energy Performance Certificate of Band E, F or G.)

Shayne Cook, Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing - one of the 10 participating authorities- says: “During the current cost of living crisis, rising energy bills are a concern for many residents.  This scheme aims to support those most affected, and I urge households who meet the eligibility criteria to get in touch.”

    Mine are all student houses so we managed to get all the D's and E's included in a similar scheme. I made sure I got to know the insulating company well before they started and I have to say it was a great success. Key was being very hands on and good tips for the installers!

    Basically the taxpayer Is paying this and it all falls apart if people leave doors and windows fully open. Condensation will be a big problem, leading to mould.

    You cannot legislate against stupid, and that is where we will be when a property becomes as air tight as a Tupperware box and goes mouldy 😰

    All pas 20:30 work has to have a proper ventilation strategy.

    New homes are built fully insulated & don't have problems so a well done retrofit with ventilation will be no different.
