Police have secured a partial closure order on a private rental flat.

The action follows multiple reports of crime and anti-social behaviour at the Scarborough property that was causing misery for local residents.

Neighbourhood Policing Officers and council and other services presented evidence to a court resulting in the granting of the closure order by Scarborough Magistrates.

The order will last for three months and prevents anyone from entering the property other than professionals, the landlord and a named person.

If the order is breached suspects could face arrest and up to 51 weeks in jail, or a fine or both.

Sergeant Jonathan Dillon of Scarborough Neighbourhood Policing Team, says: “Thanks to joint working with our partner agencies we have secured the partial closure order that aims to protect the rest of the residents in the block of flats whose lives were blighted by the anti-social and criminal behaviour of those visiting the flat in question. 

“A closure order is one way we can protect residents and restore peace to local people while other, more lengthy investigations are ongoing.”
