Estate agent Northwood has announced the launch of the Northwood Foundation, set up in honour of Nick Cooper, the former managing director of Northwood who sadly lost his battle with pancreatic cancer last year.

The Northwood Foundation is seen by all as a fitting tribute to a man who contributed so much to both the business and the lettings industry as a whole.

Each year the Foundation will support a charity that the full Northwood network of over 500 people will raise funds for. It was felt appropriate that this year’s chosen charity is the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, whose mission is to fund world-class research into the disease leading to the development of a test for the early detection and diagnosis of the disease and more effective treatments. Just three in every 100 people diagnosed will live beyond five years. This is the worst survival rate of any common cancer and has barely improved in the past 40 years.

Northwood have set itself an ambitious target of raising £20,000 by 2015 to coincide with its 20th year anniversary of trading and is planning a wide range of fundraising events.

A seven day hike up Mount Kilimanjaro is being undertaken by five of Northwood’s fittest including CEO Gemma Goodson and non-executive director Nick Harris. Donations are gratefully welcomed and can be made at https://www.northwooduk.com/charitable-foundation

The ‘Cooper Cup’ golf tournament later in the year will see the North and South offices take each other on not only to win bragging-rites for the next 12 months but also raise further funds for the Foundation.

Goodson said: “Today is a proud day for us in launching the Northwood Foundation. With the full network of over 500 people fully behind it and keen to get fundraising, it is real testament to the legacy that Nick leaves behind.”

CEO of the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, Maggie Blanks, said: “It’s fantastic to have the support of the Northwood Foundation and we’re grateful to staff at all 80 offices who will be fundraising for us. I’d like them to take great pride in the part they’re playing in  supporting the cutting edge research that will help to defeat this most lethal of all cancers.”
