A number of MPs are currently earning rental income from properties let to private tenants, including eight ministers in Boris Johnson’s new cabinet.
According to the Mirror, the MPs are currently claiming money to rent properties in London, while letting out their own homes.
Last year the eight MPs claimed a total of £145,838 back from taxpayers for properties they live in while in London.
Meanwhile, each of them earns at least £10,000 in income from tenants.
Defence secretary Ben Wallace claimed £27,550 for rent in 2018/19, while letting out a flat in south-west London.
Minister without portfolio and chairman of the Conservative party James Cleverly billed taxpayers £14,400 while letting out a house in Lewisham, south-east London.
Northern Powerhouse minister Jake Berry claimed £13,050 for rent while receiving income from three houses in Anglesey.
Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns claimed £18,900 for rent while letting a property in Cardiff to tenants.
Scottish Secretary Alister Jack claimed £11,310 while earning income from two cottages in his Dumfries and Galloway constituency.
Security Minister Brandon Lewis charged £21,795 while renting out his house in Essex.
Attorney General Geoffrey Cox charged £22,680 while letting a property in London and farmland in west Devon.
Finally, Chief Whip Mark Spencer claimed £16,153 for hotels while also letting out farmland.
Under the existing rule, MPs are barred from claiming mortgage interest payments on their second homes but they can claim up to £22,760 a year in rent.
They must declare properties they rent for more than £10,000 a year.

I don't agree with MP's claiming rent when they have another property within commuting distance of their place of "work" but quite happy for them to have btl income from further afield. After all, one of the biggest problems with MP's is general lack of real life experience in jobs, business, unemployment, homelessness etc. In fact, the only real life experience some have had is the inside of a prison cell!
Why not try the Shadow Cabinet as well. One might be surprised at how these champions of the deprived actually behave ?
I wouldn't be at all surprised, look at Mr Blair he's big into BTL and has been for a long time.
