Housing Association sorry after threatening complaining tenant with eviction

The trade publication Inside Housing says a 20,000-home housing association has apologised after saying it would take enforcement action against a resident who complained about anti-social behaviour.

The shared ownership resident, who lives in Crawley, complained to Moat housing association in June 2022 about alleged anti-social behaviour from neighbours, who she claimed have harassed her for five years.

In January this year, after an investigation was concluded, a Moat staff member reportedly told the resident it would start enforcement action against her. According to the resident, the staff member accused her of being anti-social, but produced no evidence to back this up.

A letter to the tenant from Moat, seen by Inside Housing, said the staff member “did not follow our anti-social behaviour procedure before advising that she would be serving you with a Notice of Seeking Possession”.

Moat has apologised and the staff member in question no longer works at the association: the tenant has not had enforcement proceedings started against her.

However, she now claims to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder following the threat, and says she has flashbacks and nightmares about the threat, in addition to continuing anti-social behaviour from neighbours.

The wonderful, amazing Social Housing landlords strike again. No doubt a lawyer will be lurking somewhere to get compensation for the tenant, or do they only do that when the landlord is in the PRS.

So how can the association get possession? They don’t own 100% of the property, the tenant is a owner also

If the bitter & twisted Lefty politicians & Marxist Pressure groups like Shelter & Generation Rent turned their attention to the real cause of housing problems i.e. the dire lack of social housing & badly run Housing Associations rather than concentrating all their venom on Landlords in the Private Sector, rents would fall & many more deserving families would have decent affordable homes to live in!
