Yet another council ponders revenue-raising licensing scheme

A council is to consult on a new licensing scheme that aims to tackle rogue landlords in parts of Scunthorpe that are hotspots for anti-social behaviour, unsafe homes, and public health issues.

If approved, all landlords in the designated areas would have to apply for a license to be able to rent out homes.

North Lincolnshire councillor Richard Hannigan says: “The council tries to work with landlords to ensure they provide decent homes and that their tenants are not causing problems in their communities.

“But in some parts of North Lincolnshire this approach is not working with a few rogue landlords who are not working in the interests of their tenants and the communities they live in.

“A new licensing scheme in these areas would give the council more powers to intervene and protect tenants from poor accommodation and their neighbours from anti-social behaviour.

“We will consult on this new scheme in the coming weeks and if supported will have a new scheme in place as soon as possible.”

The areas covered by the licensing scheme would include Crosby, Town and Park wards and some streets in the Frodingham ward in Scunthorpe.

How is a landlord responsible for their tenants ASB 🤔 maybe they are their carers 😂😂

I am so sick of the phrase "rogue landlords". What exactly does it mean! It seems to me that it is rogues who are portraying all landlords in this way in order to fleece them with licensing schemes and to try to take their properties off them in one way or another.

It’s rubbish propaganda and here say, if they know there are Rogue Landlords then prosecute why penalise all Landlords.
So it’s all about the money grab inventing imagery Rogue Landlords.
The definition of a Rogue Landlord is a good Landlord that the Tenant complained to the Council’s about, always pleads guilty as he can’t afford to plead not guilty and pay double the fine. I remember one Council say we always prosecute if the Tenants complains.

  • Peter Why Do I Bother

So by this article and what we have read over the last few days the 'Rogue Landlords' are Social Housing Councils...!

    John Chart observes:

All landlords("LLs)" are rogue LLs.. By having the temerity to own property for letting, LLs do not conform to the ideal socialist world view. They are elitist landLORDS who must be expunged, and come the revolution (French-style) be strung up on the nearest lamp-post. Their properties are to be confiscated for the "greater good". I feel sure that Shelter (in confiscated home), Generation No Rent, Acorn and the other usual suspects will be nodding wildly with approval at this comment !
