A council is stamping down on waste and rubbish issues involving four Homes in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).

Section 46 Notices require landlords to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place for the storage and disposal of household waste. This may include providing sufficient bins for residents, making tenants aware of waste collection arrangements and taking steps to prevent waste from accumulating outside properties.

These notices have been issued to four HMOs in Potters Bar following concerns about waste management at the properties, reported to Hertsmere council.

A council spokesperson says: “We remain committed to investigating concerns about HMOs that are reported to us.

“Most landlords work hard to manage their properties responsibly, but where problems arise we will work with landlords and tenants to secure improvements, including using powers available to us. “

Failure to comply with a Section 46 Notice can result in formal action and fixed penalty notices being issued.
